Okay, ive got a tapping sound in my 3.0... it started after I did seafoam about 1500 miles ago. When id did it i did seafoam, ran it for a day, changed oil, changed plugs, and put zmax in the engine. Ive had people tell me it could be loose rockers and some people told me it could be spark jumping between spark plug wires.

Any ideas or advise on what it could be? thanks guys!

oh and it comes and goes in different temperatures it seems like.

well to eliminate plug wires wait until night and look under the hood to see if its jumping sparks between the plug wires. and as for rockers i have heard of the 3.0 comin loose before but do you think you might be low on oil. when your low on oil and you rev it the top end will start to float and dry up a lil

ill check the spark tonight... its not low... just filled it up and it hasnt burned any, just checked it... full of motorcraft synthetic... im wondering if its the tranny now cuz you can hear it from the side and after i put in some high mileage transmission treatment 2 days ago it stopped... but now its come back. if its the rockers, ill just probably save up for some performance rockers to put in while to top end is tore off.

It could be hydraulic lifter on its way out. The seafaom probably broke a piece of crud loose and it is clogging up the valve on the lifter, so it is starving for oil and allowing the clearance between the rocker and push rod te increase, causing the the tap.

you think running more seafoam of something through it may help break the crap up if it is that? I could rape the engine with the 2 bottles of seafoam Ive got laying around! lol

How did you put the sea foam in and how many miles????

I did it at about 64000 miles. Put a little in the gas tank, a little in the crankcase, and then let the engine suck up the rest through the vacuum hose... then I ran the truck till white smoke was gode, drove it the next day, and then after that one day of 40 miles I changed oil, oil filter, and plugs.

Yea it seems kind of early to be making noise that was why i tried everything i could to fix it and it was the gas all along i did sea foam too on my last tank of that crappy gas... I got almost 64000 too on my truck.. I switched from motorcraft plugs because the 3.0 ford found out made a pinging noise with them so there correction to the problem is recommended by ford to use autolite 103's and i did that the pingign stopped and then it came back when i switched gas so i had the pinging problem twice and corrected it twice to that was my expierence.. The fact is it should not be making a lot of noise at 60000 at least you would think it wouldn't be....

yeah... im just wondering if the seafoam did something to loosen stuff and then clog it again... im at a loss...

It could of i would try the other stuff first and then see what happens....

yeah, im thinking some of the fuel additive cleaners, and then if that dont work dump some more seafoam in to see if it will break apart the clogged areas.

ok on the sea foam i was told by 100 give or take ten lol of ppl to leave it in the oil for min 100 miles max 200 i left it for almost 400 miles and kept an eye on my oil color and level (by dip stick). so maybe if you left it in long if there is anything in your oil it should break up and run out in the next oil change. i dont think you should put more than 1/3 of the can in the oil reason being its made to break down oil and the additives in oil so its possible you could hurt the motor. and now your thinking it could be trans so maybe take a few mins and look around some more before you jump to adding more cleaners.

im not sure what it is... it comes and goes... come january ill probably have to change the oil so maybe ill do seafoam again if it continues... the tranny sounded good when i checked it today... gotta be something in the engine.

I'm definetly going to have to agree with BADINTEN on this one don't add anymore stuff to it yet look around first try the plugs try good gas see what happens ....

the plugs are brand new autolites... im getting new 8mm wires for xmas and then ill see how it does... im gonna go crazy and et some 93 octane gas next time i fill up to see what it does... today its been quiet and havnt heard it at all... its like a damn woman! moody as hell!

Haha... let us know how it goes after putting the 93 octane in! My old 02 4.0 ran MUCH better with higher octane gas... it was really sluggish with 87

ill put in some 93 octane and then put a thing of octane booster in it! haha, just kidding... i gotta fill up after class so ill get the 93...
