Reallyyyy late start

I would guess that this should be happening but heres my problem, 99.9% of the time when i turn on my car it takes roughly 7-12 seconds to turn over? guesstimating here but yeah. Now, i just bought a brand new battery, and my dad said that this is because in my ranger, the gas drains from the system so it has to take that long for all the gas to circulate back into the engine etc... anyone have any insight on this, i can take a vid if you guys want, thanks!

That's definitely not normal for a Ranger... or at least any I've driven...

Could be your started relay going out... or maybe even your starter... well, could even have something to do with the plugs/wires/distributor...

dont you love engines? LOL
I replaced my starter, it got a little better, but i still have the same problem.
yeah, its just kind of like embarassing lol cuz the truck runs and sounds awesome and is better than 90% of the rides at my school but it sounds like a beater when i sit there and and just shakes and doesnt turn overr
starter is what i would say too... i even dare say your engine may have gunk in it that could be cleaned up some... do some fuel additives to clean injectors and such and seafoam will break anything apart inside of it!
air filter maybe, did you check it?
you dad is right and wrong any car truck van you name it will let the fuel bleed back into the tank IF the fuel pump is not holding pressure. now you said it shakes too well that can be a tune up problem mixed with a bad fuel pump. you can test the pressure of the pump to see if it stay up or if it bleeds down. the starter should not have anything to do with it not starting unless it was not turning over but if the motor still spins over i would look into the tune up and fuel pump. hope this helps

side note when your low on gas does it skip revs at different rpms maybe under heavy take off will you feel good power and then say 3000rpm its like a rev limiter and than after say 3200 rpm will the power come back on. just wondering

Good point BADINTEN, I totally forgot about the fuel pump! My guess is that is probably your culprit...
most likely yes but a full tune up makes a truck happy too

Thanks Badinten, ill check it out, and kind of, also if i rev my engine, its limited to going up to ~3000 rpms when i rev it. anyone else have this?
yes, all newer rangers have that 3000 rpm rev limiter... its electronic so the only way to change it is through a flash programmer, and same with adjusting the top speed governor from 95 to whatever... the reason they did that was as a saftey feature so you didnt rev it too much and damage it accidently.
My f150 has a gov at 100, how fast will it really go?
well if your not moving it will stop at 3000 rpm thats just the rev limiter (pain in our fast driving asses) but there for a reason. they make tuners to move it past 3000 or make it lower if thats your thing. ya most likely your fuel pump buddy
