These are some pics from the Michigan Technical University's Winter Baja event. I had a blast up there at the event. My school, Ferris got 9th and 10th overall in the endurances races and we won the big air competition for the second year in a row. We also bent the frame for the second year in a row. lol.

This is the vid of the big air jump. Our car that won is the only one that rolls over at 55-59 sec.

wow do i want one , specs please
sweet
The engine is a 10 hp Briggs that for the actual SAE sanctioned events it cannot be modified in any way. Has to be completely stock. But for the Michigan tech event, you are not supposed to modify them, but they look the other way and do not even have tech inspection. Other than that everyone's car is different. Each school comes up with their own design and then builds it, tests it, breaks it , fixes it, and then rebuilds it better for the next year. Each year you learn something new.
That'd be a gas.

Wow that looks like fun 8)
Wow that looks fun! I used to have a Honda Odyssey (similar) it was a blast.
Looks like a blast man! Wish I couldve gone! Maybe my school will bring back the funding for our baja team so we can be in it again soon!
^^^It would be sweet if they did bring back funding. But you could also do a lot of fundraising and ask for donations. Some parts on our car are actually kawaski mule parts or polaris 4-wheeler parts that we got donated to us.

The funny thing is that Ferris also has a formula team and formula hybrid team. The hybrid is the first year that they are building the simplest car ever just to be able to compete. The formula team on the other side thinks they need the most complex car ever with a CBR 600 motor with a turbo on it and some crazy suspension that looks like its built out of pencil tubing. They haven't actually been able to compete in a SAE sanctioned event because either they didn't pass tech or there car wasn't ready. It seems like the only thing they do is try and get their motor running right but can't get much power out of it because of the retarded turbo design they have that doesn't work. Rumor is that if they do not compete this year, the dean will cut funding for them.

The baja team, however, is getting more money because we are doing so well and actually bringing home trophies.

The hybrid sounds sweet! Ive heard of it but never seen them. We had a bunch of sponsors last year for funding but since I wasnt able to go due to ROTC the guy that drove sucked and snapped the rear axle and just screwed up the whole thing. We tried to get donations around here but the economy is tight and sponsors arent wanting to sign on again because im not driving it. Maybe fall semester we can get it started back up with baja. hell, the F1 team is lucky if they can get the car running for 10 minutes. We run our cars into the ground for hours at a time and its still ready for more!
Sounds like a lot of similarities between our two schools. lol Do you baja guys down there always rip on the formula guys cuz they don't ever seem to do anything right? We sure do. We also make fun of them cuz we are pretty much all auto students and they are mostly MET guys who don't know **** about cars and that kills their performance because they just go off designs and not what reality is.
yep pretty much! Sounds like us too! Except we are the MET and MET Motorsports engineering guys and they are all ME majors and think they are better cuz they need more math! LOL. They can never get anything right with that car. It may do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds one day and the next day it falls apart when started. Never gets old! LOL
That would make sense cuz you guys probably do not have an auto program and we don't have ME degrees, only MET degrees.

ME = mechanical engineering ?
MET = ?????

We have a motorsports program that works with nascar but the campus for the motorsports division is 5 hours away. Other than that its not much.

MET is Mechanical Engineering Technology
So you guys have kind of like a high performance thing/ degree going on then. Thats pretty cool. I wish Ferris had something like that. We have a "Performance machining" class, but thats the extent of it. I want a hi po suspension class and also a light duty diesel class.
Yeah its pretty much a high performance class. I cant do it though. Im in the right major to go for it but ROTC wont allow me to go out there for a semester and they want me to get a Militay Leadership degree, not Motorsports. Gay I know.
Tell them to shove it. :knight: Its your money, your life, your dreams, and you can do what you want. :super:
You have no clue how much I want to! lol
