It wouldn't be impossible (check out rwenzing's profile) but it would be much easier for clearance and adaptability issues if you were to put the 302 in a GenI Ranger (83-88 model).

yeah, the only issue with 302's in the newer Rangers are that you need to get a new transmission, rewire alot of crap, and then the engine compartment is a pretty tight fit.

302 ranger

I put a 302 in my 98 ranger and it cost about $3,500 or so. it runs good, sounds good. Its a lot of work but its about what you want...If you have a 4.0sohc v6 you wont get much more hp, if you have a 3.0 like I did it will make a huge difference

The 302 shouldn't be any harder than in my 98? But your looking at a few grand probable and the wiring can be trickie unless u say the heck with it and go carb but even then a lot of issues. The 4.0 sohc motor has almost the same hp but the 302 has the torque. Mine came out of a 97 mountaineer so I took eng, tranny, awd transfer, pcm, wiring...and a lot of mods. But she sure does run good.
