I have a 1984 ford ranger 4x4 long bed and for my senior project i was making it a rock crawler and putting a 350 in it with a turbo 350 transmission in it with half ton chevy running gear, and i was wondering if there where any tips you could give me before I do this. ;D

big tires means high gear ratio! and get some flowmasters for that bad boy! Got any pics of the project and what school do you go to to get to do a senior project like that?

well if your going rock crawler with it i would pull the bed off it and flat bed it for one. also it would help if you lifted the cab with a body lift or do what i did and cut off the mounts and move them higher. it will make it easy to stuff that motor in there.

being as your using a chevy motor there are not ready made mounts for you to do this. your going to have to make your own mounting points on the frame its not to hard i had to do the same thing for mine.

i do have to ask one thing are you using a full chevy truck or do you just have parts from it to do this swap

Nah, you're right. The "lower" the gear, the "higher" the number...

But remember, with a V8 swap, he can probly handle 35's fairly easy with 4.10's...

ya, i am taking the bed off and i will be running 4.11 gears with 36" super swamper. I have all the parts off of a half ton chevy (running gear, engine, transmission, tires, all the mounts, and i have the frame for it to) I am putting a 3" body lift on the cab and the front and the back are going to be all tubed out. I dont have any pictures of it yet but they will be on here soon. I go to school in pierce, Idaho (timberline high school)

Sweet! I need to see these pics!!!

As far as transmission goes, it's really your preference as to whether or not you want a manual...

well i want them both, i have a four speed in my 79 with a built up 350 and i can tow about anything i want so i know a four speed is good for torque but on the highway there is not much power in 4th, with an automatic it would go pretty good on the highway. I am buying a rebuilt 350 corvette engine with 600 horsepower to put with the tranny to. the automatic would be alot faster to put in it becasue i would just go with a B&M quick shifter.
