Yes, I'm a newbie on this forum but a shade tree mechanic all of my life.

I have a 2004 Ranger with a rebuilt 4.0L V6 engine with only 5K miles on it. I bought the truck used last year without a Users Manual.

After driving the truck for awhile, when I get out and walk around the front I can smell coolant but I have found no evidence of a leak. I'm hoping this is normal as maybe there is coolant entering the overflow tank and I'm just smelling that. What do you think?

In addition, I cannot find a "Max" or "Min" or "Fill Cold" or "Fill Hot" level of any kind on the overflow tank itself. I'm confused by the Pictorials on the tank for it looks like I'm not to add coolant to the tank but directly to the radiator. This seems backwards from other vehicles I have owned. So how much coolant should be in the tank normally?

Thanks to all in advance for any input.
