the jy are full of escorts and tempo or topaz what ever they were they are dead simple. if you want one for rallying the vw golf brake is simple to mod the ratchet and a return spring and u have a rally brake.used to put two side by side and run a cable from each to its own back wheel cheap steering brakes. i was into dune poppers when i was a kid 
That's kind of where I was going with this idea in my head. Never done or seen it done.
