I have a 2001 Ranger with about 170000 miles on it. It is a 4 cylinder. I have had it for about 3 years now and am starting to have some problems with the ac. I turn the ac on and it takes the compressor clutch a while to engage (some times 10 to 20 min) if it engages at all. Once engaged air is nice and cold. I believe that the freon level is good. When I hook up a gauge to it I get a pressure of about 35 psi when it was about 70 degrees outside and the truck was parked. Any ideas?

I have also been hearing a rattling noise that seems to be getting worse. It is only heard when accelerating or when pulling a load. I thought it may be something loose in the exhaust but could not find anything. Any help would be great!
Thanks

I can't help with the ac but check the shield around the top of the cat for being loose.
